One of the great things about being involved with this project is getting to meet so many people that are passionate about the community they live in and who actively work to make it a better place. Locally that has meant meeting and getting to know people from community groups on both sides of the river. We have of course been in touch with the Teddington Society as the weir sits right between us but also with groups from all over the borough. Wherever possible we have made arrangements to give talks or presentations to their members.
We also have had some involvement with Transition Town Kingston as we are aware they are just a few minutes upstream from us. In fact just last week Chas Warlow was invited to speak at an event there. The event 'Kingston Vision for 2050 A Green Energy Future?' was a day-long programme of expert speakers and public discussion focused on the future aspirations of a greener Kingston and the path to achieving climate change resiliency. The programme agenda sought to expand three distinct themes and engage participants to consider integrated solutions for sustainable growth and ensuring that Kingston’s quality of living (and indeed, that of the UK) is best managed.
THEME 1: Vision for 2050 – What it means for Kingston and how can growth and development be sustainably delivered?
THEME 2: Energy realities – The transition from fossil fuel based energy to low (or zero) carbon energy systems.
THEME 3: The role of communities in leading the required change.
