What Has Inspired Us?

Wednesday 12 December 2012
13:00 to 14:00

Ranging across music, writing, the visual arts and the natural world, Sue and Leslie will describe what sparks their imaginations, the process of revision and how books begin, grow and develop.

Starting with pictorial ‘warm up’ activities, they will move on to how they ‘adapt from life’ and the importance of in-depth language/characterisation. To illustrate the essential elements they feel should go into a beautiful book Leslie and Sue will read from their prose and poetry, use visual aids and discuss authors they admire.

Afterwards, Leslie will sign his two character-led novels. They portray modern love in different eras. Frontliners deals with urban feminist-led relationships in the 80s/90s; Aphrodite’s Children recreates the wildness of the 60s. See www.leslietate.com for more details.

Sue will sign her sixteen children’s novels, three of which have been praised by Michael Morpurgo. Aimed at ages 6 – 16 and all different, they cover historical fiction, character-led drama, romance, magical fantasy, adventure, humour, satire, and futuristic dystopias. See www.suehamptonauthor.co.uk for more details.
